Domenico and Zoe continued their work looking at environmental effects like landslides and ground cracks. They focussed on the areas around Pescara del Tronto and Accumoli. Today was their last day in the field and they fly back to the UK tomorrow.

Day 5: Group 3 heads to Norcia

In the afternoon Flavia, Tristan, Giuseppe & Liz visited a number of buildings in Norcia.  The 1970s, reinforced concrete framed school had been previously (post 1997 earthquake) retrofitted with steel hollow section bracing.  It appears to have performed well and is open for business.

Day 5: Reconstruction in L’Aquila

David and Serena visited L’Aquila to evaluate the status and progress of the reconstruction after the 2009 earthquake. Especially the degree of economic and social revitalisation and the level of functionality, i.e. services available to the population.
